Edwardian 18ct Gold Diamond Boat Ring, Birmingham 1909
The elongated, marquise-shaped centre is set with five graduated diamonds, with the largest positioned in the middle and progressively smaller stones towards either end. Their delicate sparkle is beautifully complemented by the rich yellow gold, creating a classic combination that has remained popular for generations.
One of the most distinctive features of this ring is its wonderfully decorative setting. A series of raised, open arches runs along either side of the diamonds, forming an intricate gallery that gives the ring an almost lace-like appearance. The sweeping gold borders frame the gemstones beautifully, while the gently sculpted shoulders lead into a slender, polished band. It is a lovely example of the attention to detail found in Edwardian jewellery.
Crafted in 18ct Yellow Gold, the ring weighs 2.2 grams and carries British hallmarks for Birmingham, together with the Makers Mark WG&S, attributed to William Griffiths & Sons. The date letter is faint but is believed to correspond to 1909, placing the ring within the Edwardian period.Currently a Size M½, this is a charming antique diamond ring with plenty of individuality. Its traditional five-stone arrangement, beautifully pierced setting and more than a century of history make it a lovely choice for anyone who appreciates genuine antique jewellery.
