Birmingham 1919! Antique 15ct Yellow Gold Engraved Floral Cufflinks

Each oval face measures approximately 19mm by 12mm, giving them a wonderfully substantial presence at the cuff without appearing oversized. The engraving is the real star of the design: the entire surface has been worked with an elaborate floral and scroll pattern, with contrasting polished and finely textured areas allowing the decoration to catch the light beautifully.

The cufflinks are joined by traditional gold chain links, a classic construction for the period which allows the decorative oval faces to sit comfortably on either side of the shirt cuff. At a combined weight of 8.8 grams, they also have a pleasingly substantial feel in the hand. These cufflinks were hallmarked in Birmingham in 1919 making them over a century old. They have been well looked after and retain an exceptional amount of their original decorative detail.

What makes this pair particularly special is the 15ct Gold. Once a recognised British gold standard, 15 carat gold ceased to be used as an official UK fineness in 1932, making surviving hallmarked 15ct pieces unmistakably historical. The Birmingham hallmark dates this pair precisely to 1919, giving them genuine provenance rather than simply a vintage-inspired appearance.

There is something wonderfully timeless about them. Although made more than 100 years ago, the oval shape and richly engraved decoration remain exceptionally wearable today.
